On the fashion runaway with Paula’s jacket, on our way up the hill in the city center. The Santa Lucia Hill was made into a park as a monument for Chile’s founding.

In the Plaza de Armas, with the family feeding the pigeons, seeing how close I can get without scaring the birds away…

Everyone wanted to see how their pictures turned out! Here, Oscar is checking out my close-ups of him sketching Paula’s portrait. Even the police came by to see how they looked on their motorcycles!

In the Teleferico, taking pictures of the city streets below, You can see Santiago’s highrises in the background.

From the San Cristobal Hill, after riding up in the Teleferico. Below is Santiago – home to 6.4 million people – stretching on for miles in every direction!

Visibility? One block!

It’s called “Restriccion.” In the winter, weeks like this one make going outside a bit painful. Visibility is about one block. You come home with a headache. Your clothes are dusty. The windows have to stay closed, and certain cars can’t be on the road.

These are the days in which the smog levels rise to severely unhealthy levels and the government enforces “Restriccion.” Today, if your license plate ends in 3, 4, 5 or 6, your car stays off the road. So, find yourself a carpool buddy or take the metro to work. And if you’re not used to the particles in the air, be sure to wear a scarf and cover your nose and mouth!

On the way to my friends’ office this morning, where I’m now online uploading photos!!

Waiting to be picked up in front of my house Tuesday morning.

Waiting at the door to Frank’s office building central downtown yesterday. I stood there with my scarf-mask and got the “you’re-not-from-here look” every couple seconds. That building you see on the right is the Chilean capitol!

Requests?

What parts of Santiago do you still want to see? What parts of the culture do you want pictures of?

With three days left, there is still plenty that I haven’t captured on camera. Any requests?

Here are a few pics of the road back to Santiago from Rancagua — home of the best grapes, cantalope and strawberries. Next time you eat grapes, there’s a good chance they’re from Chile! Maybe even from Rancagua…

Early Sunday morning drive back to Santiago from the south
